Mom doing my laundry at Parents Weekend at TCU circa 1982
I have no idea why my thoughts turned to laundry this evening as I was coming home from Trivia (and yes we crashed and burned at Trivia in a most spectacular way!) but it did.
I don't mind doing laundry it is just kind of boring and living alone I don't rack up a whole lot of it especially in the colder months.
But it did get me to thinking about Mom.
The woman lived for laundry. She ironed underwear and blue jeans for pete's sake.
I learned on Dad's last trip up here when they were first married and she was pregnant with Sister1 she made money by going to the nieghbors houses who hated laundry and ironing and got paid to do it for them (The shocking things you learn about your parents after they are gone LOL)
When Ma was sick I took two types of trips home. Either a short 3-4 days where I would spend the entire time in Brenham with her and Dad or the longer extended "Tour of Texas" trip where I would start or end my trip with them.
On one such extended trip my dear sweet mother offered once again to do my laundry before I flew back to Baltimore.
So now I am kind of stuck. I can't let my Ma do my laundry the woman is sick and I'm kind of an adult.
So being the brainiac I am I said "Ma you don't need to do that I wouldn't want it to get wrinkled on the way back."
Well you would have thought I had just swore at her. I'm sure we all have those times when you get "the look" from one of your parents and I had not gotten one in years since I had turned into such a fine upstanding young man (as far as Mom and Dad knew :)) and she looked at me with fire in her eyes and said very slowly and clearly so I would understand:
"Steven I can do laundry and PACK IT SO IT DOES NOT WRINKLE!"
And I felt like I was 7 again lol.
And so I let my Mom do my laundry and you know what? It wasn't wrinkled when I got home!

LOL!
Moms have magic powers, is what it is. (I'll give you ten bucks if you'll tell my kids that.)
I like to do laundry. I like folding clothes. But I am not good at stain removal like my Mom. My Mom could remove any kind of stain.
We miss our Mom's, don't we?
Wednesday I am making another cake.
Have a nice night.
I don't mind folding clothes and organizing a linen closet; and I can pack a mean suitcase: but I HATE to put the rest of the laundry away! Silly, huh?!
I think your Mom and my Grama would have ha a blast together! :)
Have a good week.
